CGPA Formula Used by National University Bangladesh

The NU CGPA is a credit-weighted average. For each course, multiply the earned grade points by the course's credit hours. Sum all of these products across every course, then divide by the total credits attempted (including failed courses). This gives the standard formula:

CGPA = (Σ Grade Points × Credits) ÷ Total Credits Attempted

Courses with an F grade contribute their full credits to the denominator but zero points to the numerator, accurately lowering the CGPA as intended by NU guidelines. Courses with no grade entered are excluded from the calculation.

This Sociology CGPA calculator is an independent tool and is not officially affiliated with National University Bangladesh. Always verify your final results with your college administration. Syllabus data is sourced from publicly available NU documents for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Frequently Asked Questions — Sociology CGPA

What is the passing CGPA for Sociology at National University Bangladesh?

At National University Bangladesh, a student must achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.00 to pass their Sociology (Degree (Pass Course)) programme. A grade of D (2.00 grade points, 40%–44% marks) is the lowest passing grade for any individual course. How do I calculate my Sociology CGPA at NU?

To calculate your Sociology CGPA, multiply the grade points you earned in each course by the credit hours of that course. Add up all those products across every course you have taken. Then divide that total by the sum of all credit hours attempted (including failed courses). Our free calculator above does this automatically — just select your academic year and enter a grade for each course.

What is a First Class CGPA in the Sociology Honours programme?

Under the National University Bangladesh grading system, a CGPA of 3.00 or above (equivalent to a B grade, 60% or higher) is generally considered First Class in Honours programmes including Sociology. A CGPA of 3.50 or above (A− equivalent) qualifies for a First Class with Merit or Honours distinction, depending on individual college policy. Always check with your college administration for official classification thresholds.
