Course codes, course names, and credit hours are the foundation of every calculation this tool performs. Here is exactly where that data comes from and how we handle the edge cases.
Where the Syllabus Data Comes From
Every course code, course name, and credit value in this calculator is transcribed from the official syllabus documents published by National University Bangladesh on their public syllabus portal:

We do not use third-party summaries, coaching center notes, or unofficial compilations — every course list in this calculator traces back to a PDF published on that page.
How Course Data Is Transcribed
Each department's syllabus PDF is read manually, and every course code, course title, and credit value is entered into our internal course database exactly as published. Where a syllabus PDF is ambiguous (for example, when a course listing splits a paper into a theory and a practical component under one combined credit value), we preserve that structure as two separate line items rather than collapsing them — matching how NU itself presents the grade sheet.
If you notice a course code, title, or credit value on this site that does not match your official syllabus, please report it through our contact page. We review and correct data errors as they are reported.
Which Syllabus Versions Are Supported
This calculator currently supports the 2024–2025 and 2013–2014 syllabus versions, as published on the NU syllabus portal linked above, across BSc Honours, BBA Honours, BSS Honours, BA Honours, BA (Degree Pass), and Degree (Pass Course) programmes. You can switch between syllabus versions from the search panel on any department page. If National University publishes a newer syllabus revision, we update the affected departments as soon as the new PDF is available.
How the CGPA Calculation Works
The formula
For each course, we multiply the grade point you select by that course's credit value, sum these products across every course, then divide by the total credits attempted.
How F grades are treated
A course graded F contributes zero grade points to the numerator, but its full credit value is still counted in the denominator — this correctly lowers the CGPA, matching National University's own grading policy. A course with no grade selected is excluded entirely from the calculation (neither numerator nor denominator) until you enter a result.
Improvement exams
This calculator does not currently model improvement-exam retake rules, since NU's improvement policy can vary by college and by year. If you have retaken a course, enter the grade you intend to use for your CGPA and refer to your college administration for how NU officially treats improvement results in your specific case.
Practical and theory papers
Where NU's syllabus lists a practical component as its own course code and credit value (as it does for most science departments), we list it as a separate row with its own grade selector — exactly as it would appear on your official NU grade sheet.
What This Tool Does Not Do
- We do not publish or display your actual official results — you enter your own grades manually.
- We do not connect to any National University database or result portal.
- We do not store your grades on any server — everything stays in your browser (see our Privacy Policy).
- We are not able to certify, verify, or officially validate your CGPA for any administrative purpose.
NU CGPA Calculator is an independent tool and is not officially affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to National University Bangladesh. While we take care to transcribe syllabus data accurately from the official source linked above, always verify your final CGPA and course credits with your college administration. Official results and transcripts published by National University take precedence over any calculation shown on this site.
