Course codes, course names, and credit hours are the foundation of every calculation this tool performs. Here is exactly where that data comes from and how we handle the edge cases.
Where the Syllabus Data Comes From
Every course code, course name, and credit value in this calculator is transcribed from the official syllabus documents published by National University Bangladesh on their public syllabus portals:
These are the official pages National University uses to publish syllabus PDFs for Honours and Degree Pass programmes. We do not use third-party summaries, coaching center notes, or unofficial compilations — every verified course list in this calculator traces back to NU PDF source material and a reviewed working extract.
How Course Data Is Transcribed
Each department's syllabus PDF is read manually, and every course code, course title, and credit value is entered into our internal course database exactly as published. Where a syllabus PDF is ambiguous (for example, when a course listing splits a paper into a theory and a practical component under one combined credit value), we preserve that structure as two separate line items rather than collapsing them — matching how NU itself presents the grade sheet.
If you notice a course code, title, or credit value on this site that does not match your official syllabus, please report it through our contact page. We review and correct data errors as they are reported.
Which Syllabus Versions Are Supported
This calculator currently supports Honours syllabus versions 2024–2025 and 2013–2014 across BSc Honours, BBA Honours, BSS Honours, and BA Honours. Degree (Pass Course) supports the 2025–2026 and 2013–2014 sessions. You can switch between available syllabus versions from the search panel on any department page.
The Honours 30-department BSc/BA/BSS/BBA dataset has now been rechecked against manually prepared, user-verified extracts from the official NU PDFs for the covered 2013–2014 and 2024–2025 years. BA 2024–2025 Pali and the five Music departments are newer departments; only their first-year syllabus has been published so far, so upper-year pages will be added after NU publishes those official PDFs.
Degree (Pass Course) data has also been rebuilt from the user-verified Degree (Pass) Course Syllabus 2013–2014 working extract. The 2025–2026 Degree Pass session starts from those verified department rows and adds the official first-year Functional English compulsory course effective from the 2025–2026 session.
How Verified Extracts Are Protected
For verified Honours and Degree Pass updates, the working source is still National University's official PDF material. We manually extract the course table into a reviewable markdown file, then update the calculator from that verified extract rather than from older internal data. After a source batch is applied, the exact course rows are locked by a build-time signature check: course code, title, credit value, optional internal ID, row count, credit total, and row order all have to match the verified snapshot.
This means a future edit that accidentally changes a verified course title, removes a practical row, changes a credit value, or reintroduces a non-credit English paper into GPA credits will fail validation before deployment. When NU publishes new syllabus PDFs, we intentionally update the data and refresh that verified signature after checking the changed rows against the new source.
How the CGPA Calculation Works
The formula
For each course, we multiply the grade point you select by that course's credit value, sum these products across every course, then divide by the total credits attempted.
How F grades are treated
A course graded F contributes zero grade points to the numerator, but its full credit value is still counted in the denominator — this correctly lowers the CGPA, matching National University's own grading policy. A course with no grade selected is excluded entirely from the calculation (neither numerator nor denominator) until you enter a result.
Improvement exams
This calculator does not currently model improvement-exam retake rules, since NU's improvement policy can vary by college and by year. If you have retaken a course, enter the grade you intend to use for your CGPA and refer to your college administration for how NU officially treats improvement results in your specific case.
Practical and theory papers
Where NU's syllabus lists a practical component as its own course code and credit value (as it does for most science departments), we list it as a separate row with its own grade selector — exactly as it would appear on your official NU grade sheet.
What This Tool Does Not Do
- We do not publish or display your actual official results — you enter your own grades manually.
- We do not connect to any National University database or result portal.
- We do not store your grades on any server — everything stays in your browser (see our Privacy Policy).
- We are not able to certify, verify, or officially validate your CGPA for any administrative purpose.
NU CGPA Calculator is an independent tool and is not officially affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to National University Bangladesh. While we take care to transcribe syllabus data accurately from the official source linked above, always verify your final CGPA and course credits with your college administration. Official results and transcripts published by National University take precedence over any calculation shown on this site.
