Third year is the pivot of an Honours degree. With one year left, your CGPA is mostly — but not entirely — written: there is still a full fourth year of credits to move it. How to check your 3rd year result online
The channels are the same ones NU uses for every Honours result, in order of reliability:
- The official
nu.ac.bdresult section — enter your roll number, registration number and exam year. This is the authoritative source; always prefer it over screenshots shared in Facebook or Messenger groups, which are routinely mislabeled with the wrong year or session. - The SMS result service — a fixed-format SMS to the university's short code. Keep this as your backup: the website regularly buckles under traffic in the first hours after a result is published.
- Your college notice board — colleges usually print and post the physical result sheet a day or two after the online result. If anything on the online copy looks off, the college sheet is the version your college acts on.
Screenshot your result the moment you see it, and note your registration number somewhere safe — you will need both for fourth-year form fill-up and, later, for the consolidated CGPA sheet.
Computing your 3rd year GPA (worked example)
Your marksheet shows letter grades; your GPA needs credit-weighted grade points. The conversion is A+ = 4.00, A = 3.75, A− = 3.50, B+ = 3.25, B = 3.00, B− = 2.75, C+ = 2.50, C = 2.25, D = 2.00, F = 0.00 — the full scale is explained in our NU grading system guide. Multiply each course's grade point by its credits, add them up, and divide by the year's total credits.
Take a Mathematics third year (8 papers × 4 credits = 32 credits) with these grades:

100.00 ÷ 32 = 3.125, i.e. a 3.13 GPA. (Because every paper here carries 4 credits, a plain average of the eight grade points gives the same answer — but that shortcut breaks the moment credits differ, as they do in most departments. If you have an F or an absent paper
An F carries 0.00 grade points but still counts in the divisor — it is included, not ignored, so even one F drags the year GPA down hard. You must clear the paper through the referred/improvement route under your syllabus rules. Two facts shape your planning: the improvement grade replaces the original (it does not average with it), and eligibility is grade-dependent, with windows that vary — confirm the current official notice for your syllabus rather than assuming last year's rules still apply. The final-year target math
This is the calculation that matters most right now. With three years banked, the fourth-year GPA you need for any CGPA target is:
Needed 4th-year GPA = (target CGPA × total degree credits − earned quality points) ÷ 4th-year credits.
Continuing the Mathematics example (year credits 48 + 34 + 32 + 44 = 158 total): suppose your CGPA after three years is 3.20 over 114 credits, so you have earned 364.8 quality points. For a 3.50 target you would need (3.50 × 158 − 364.8) ÷ 44 = 4.28 — impossible, since no GPA exceeds 4.00. That is not a reason to despair; it is a reason to re-target honestly. For a 3.30: (3.30 × 158 − 364.8) ÷ 44 = 3.56 — demanding (mostly A− or better) but genuinely achievable.
Run your own numbers before fourth-year classes start. Knowing the required GPA turns a vague "do better" into a concrete per-paper plan — and if the math says your dream target is out of reach, you learn it in time to aim deliberately at the next rung instead of discovering it at graduation.
Three mistakes to avoid this week
- Averaging your three year-GPAs. Years carry different credit totals, so (GPA1 + GPA2 + GPA3) ÷ 3 is wrong — sometimes off by a tenth or more. Always weight by credits, as GPA vs CGPA explains.
- Computing against the wrong syllabus year. Course lists and credit totals differ between the 2013–2014 and 2024–2025 syllabuses. Check which syllabus your session follows before trusting any GPA number.
- Trusting viral "result links." Every result season spawns lookalike sites harvesting roll numbers. If a link is not on
