NU 2nd Year Result 2026: Check Online, Compute Your GPA & Own the Halfway Mark

Second year is the quiet middle of an Honours degree — the freshman awe is gone and the final-year panic has not started yet. But do not let that fool you: this is the most consequential result you will see, because after it more than half of your degree credits are banked and your final CGPA is already half-written. This guide covers the three things every 2nd-year student needs the week the NU 2nd Year Result 2026 comes out: where to check it, how to compute your real GPA from the marksheet, and what the halfway mark actually means for the two years left. Just getting your first-year result? Our 1st year result guide covers that week instead.

How to check your 2nd year result online

The channels are the same ones NU uses for every Honours result, in order of reliability:

  1. The official nu.ac.bd result section — enter your roll number, registration number and exam year. This is the authoritative source; always prefer it over screenshots shared in Facebook or Messenger groups, which are routinely mislabeled with the wrong year or session.
  2. The SMS result service — a fixed-format SMS to the university's short code. Keep this as your backup: the website regularly buckles under traffic in the first hours after a result is published.
  3. Your college notice board — colleges usually print and post the physical result sheet a day or two after the online result. If anything on the online copy looks off, the college sheet is the version your college acts on.

Screenshot your result the moment you see it, and note your registration number somewhere safe — you will need both for third-year form fill-up and for the consolidated CGPA sheet at the end of the degree.

Computing your 2nd year GPA (worked example)

Your marksheet shows letter grades; your GPA needs credit-weighted grade points. The conversion is A+ = 4.00, A = 3.75, A− = 3.50, B+ = 3.25, B = 3.00, B− = 2.75, C+ = 2.50, C = 2.25, D = 2.00, F = 0.00 — the full scale is explained in our NU grading system guide. Multiply each course's grade point by its credits, add them up, and divide by the year's total credits.

Take a Mathematics second year (13 papers, 42 credits — mixed 1-to-4-credit courses) with these grades:

CourseGradePoint× CreditsQuality pts
Calculus –IIB+3.25× 413.00
Ordinary Differential EquationsB3.00× 412.00
Computer Programming (Fortran)B−2.75× 411.00
Math Lab (Practical)A3.75× 415.00
Physics-III (Electricity & Modern Physics)B3.00× 412.00
Physics-IV (Practical)A−3.50× 27.00
General Chemistry-IIC+2.50× 410.00
Environmental ChemistryB−2.75× 25.50
Methods of StatisticsA−3.50× 414.00
Statistics Practical-IIA3.75× 27.50
Applied ICTA3.75× 311.25
Lab: Applied ICTA+4.00× 14.00
Functional EnglishB+3.25× 413.00
Total135.25

135.25 ÷ 42 = 3.22 GPA. Notice the trap again: a plain average of the thirteen grade points gives 3.29 — flattering you by seven hundredths — because the strong ICT and lab grades carry only 1–3 credits while the weaker theory papers carry 4. Whenever credits differ, only the weighted method is correct. Skip the hand math with our NU Result page or your department calculator — both do the weighting for you.

What the halfway mark actually means

Add the two years together and the picture sharpens. For the Mathematics student above: 149.00 + 135.25 = 284.25 quality points over 90 credits — a 3.16 CGPA with 54.2% of the degree banked (76 credits still to come: 32 in third year, 44 in fourth). From here, a sustained 3.60 in both remaining years lifts the final CGPA to about 3.36; a 2.50 in both drags it to about 2.86. The halfway CGPA is an anchor, not a verdict — but it is a heavy one.

Two practical notes for this exact point in the degree. First, at 42 credits the Mathematics second year is lighter than both the first (48) and the fourth (44) — a manageable load while you clear a first-year backlog, which is exactly what the improvement route below is for. Second, the second-year result is your last full checkpoint before the back half of the degree: our 3rd year result guide shows how to convert three banked years into a final-year target, and the 4th year result guide walks the final CGPA itself.

If you failed a paper — especially a 1st year one

An F carries 0.00 grade points but still counts in the divisor — it is included, not ignored — so a first-year F keeps pulling your CGPA down until you clear it. The referred/improvement route replaces the old grade rather than averaging with it, and eligibility is grade-dependent, with windows that vary: confirm the current official notice for your syllabus rather than assuming last year's rules still apply. Clearing a backlog in second year is cheaper than clearing it later — the load is lighter now, and every improvement window you miss is one fewer option left. If the F is in a second-year paper, the same route applies. Our CGPA improvement guide ranks which retakes move the needle most.

Three mistakes to avoid this week

  • Averaging your grades instead of weighting them. As the worked example showed, the naive average overstates this GPA by seven hundredths. Second-year course credits vary from 1 to 4, so always weight — see GPA vs CGPA for why.
  • Computing against the wrong syllabus year. Course lists and credit totals differ between the 2013–2014 and 2024–2025 syllabuses. Check which syllabus your session follows before trusting any GPA number.
  • Parking a first-year F until fourth year. An uncleared F keeps counting 0.00 in your CGPA and improvement windows are limited — clear backlogs in second year, while you have room to plan around them.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I check my NU 2nd year result 2026?

On the official nu.ac.bd result section (roll + registration + exam year), with the SMS service as backup and the college notice board as confirmation.

How is 2nd year GPA calculated at NU?

Credit-weighted: grade point × credits per course, summed, divided by the year's total credits. Not a simple average.

How much does the 2nd year result matter for my final CGPA?

After two years roughly half of a Mathematics degree's credits are banked (90 of 166, about 54%) — other departments differ, but everywhere the halfway CGPA anchors the final number.

Can I still clear a 1st year failed paper during 2nd year?

Yes, via the referred/improvement route — the new grade replaces the old one. Eligibility is grade-dependent; confirm the current official notice for your syllabus.
