NU 4th Year Result 2026: Check Your Final Result, Read Your Final CGPA & Plan What Comes Next

The fourth-year result is the one that lands on your certificate. There is no fifth year to fix anything, so this is the number that goes on your transcript and the number you will be asked for. This guide covers the three things every final-year student needs the week the NU 4th Year Result 2026 comes out: where to check it, how your final CGPA is actually computed across all four years, and what the number means for what you do next. Coming up through the years? The 1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year result guides cover those weeks.

How to check your final result online

The channels are the same ones NU uses for every Honours result, in order of reliability:

  1. The official nu.ac.bd result section — enter your roll number, registration number and exam year. This is the authoritative source; always prefer it over screenshots shared in Facebook or Messenger groups, which are routinely mislabeled with the wrong year or session.
  2. The SMS result service — a fixed-format SMS to the university's short code. Final-year results draw the heaviest traffic of any NU result, so keep this route ready: the website regularly buckles in the first hours after publication.
  3. Your college notice board — colleges usually print and post the physical result sheet a day or two after the online result. If anything on the online copy looks off, the college sheet is the version your college acts on.

Screenshot everything the moment you see it. Your registration number matters more than ever now — you will need it for your transcript, provisional certificate and convocation paperwork, so note it down somewhere safe.

Computing your final CGPA (worked example)

Your final CGPA is not your fourth-year GPA, and it is not the average of your four yearly GPAs. It is the credit-weighted total of every course you have ever taken: total quality points ÷ total degree credits. The conversion is A+ = 4.00, A = 3.75, A− = 3.50, B+ = 3.25, B = 3.00, B− = 2.75, C+ = 2.50, C = 2.25, D = 2.00, F = 0.00 — the full scale is explained in our NU grading system guide.

Follow the same Mathematics student across the whole degree — the earlier guides in this series carry the first three years' tables. The fourth year (11 papers × 4 credits = 44 credits) looks like this:

CourseGradePoint× CreditsQuality pts
Theory of NumbersA−3.50× 414.00
Topology & Functional AnalysisB+3.25× 413.00
Methods of Applied MathematicsB+3.25× 413.00
Tensor AnalysisB3.00× 412.00
Partial Differential EquationsA−3.50× 414.00
HydrodynamicsB3.00× 412.00
Discrete MathematicsA3.75× 415.00
AstronomyB+3.25× 413.00
Mathematical Modeling in BiologyA−3.50× 414.00
Math Lab (Practical)A3.75× 415.00
Viva-Voce (Comprehensive)A3.75× 415.00
Total150.00

150.00 ÷ 44 = 3.41 GPA for the final year. Now add the four years up: 149.00 + 135.25 + 100.00 + 150.00 = 534.25 quality points over 48 + 42 + 32 + 44 = 166 credits, so the final CGPA is 534.25 ÷ 166 = 3.22. Four honest years — 3.10, 3.22, 3.13 and 3.41 — land on 3.22.

Every fourth-year paper counts at full weight, including the viva-voce — a real 4-credit course and the one students most often forget. Leaving it out of your own math inflates your CGPA by real hundredths. Skip the hand math with our NU Result page or your department calculator.

What the final year can still do

The fourth year carries 44 of 166 credits — 26.5% of the degree, the second-heaviest year after the first. That is why a single year moves the final number by more than a tenth. Holding the first three years at 384.25 points: a 3.00 fourth year finishes at 3.11, the 3.41 above finishes at 3.22, and a perfect 4.00 finishes at 3.38. You cannot change the first 122 credits — but you can still choose which side of that spread you land on.

Run your own numbers before the viva. If the math says your target is out of reach, aim deliberately at the next rung — a 3.22 you planned beats a 3.40 you hoped for. And if a paper went wrong, see the next section the same week: waiting is the one option you do not have.

If a paper went wrong

An F carries 0.00 but still counts in the divisor, so a single fourth-year F costs real CGPA at the worst possible moment — in the Mathematics example, one F instead of an A− costs 2.00 × 4 = 8.00 points, about five hundredths off the final CGPA (8 ÷ 166). If a paper went wrong, talk to your college about the referred/improvement route immediately: it is grade-dependent and window-bound, the improvement grade replaces the original rather than averaging with it, and confirm every rule against the current official notice for your syllabus. Our CGPA improvement guide explains the mechanics and which retakes move the needle most.

What the number means — and what comes next

The CGPA on your fourth-year marksheet is the figure that appears on your certificate and transcript, and it is the number applications ask for — for master's admission, for government and private jobs, for anything that needs your academic record. Treat the marksheet as the authoritative copy and keep it safe.

Two practical follow-ups, in order of urgency. First, transcript and certificate: follow your college's instructions and timelines — they differ, and application windows are not something to leave to the last minute. Second, improvement: options after the final result are limited, so if anything in your record needs repairing, raise it with your college immediately rather than after convocation.

Three mistakes to avoid this week

  • Averaging your four year-GPAs. Years carry different credits (48, 42, 32 and 44 for Mathematics), so the final CGPA is (GPA1×48 + GPA2×42 + GPA3×32 + GPA4×44) ÷ 166 — not the mean of the four GPAs. The two often differ by only a few hundredths, and at a boundary a few hundredths is everything. See GPA vs CGPA for why.
  • Forgetting the viva-voce and practicals count. Every fourth-year paper — the comprehensive viva included — carries its full credits in the final CGPA.
  • Trusting viral "result links." Final-year result season spawns lookalike sites harvesting roll numbers, and final-year students are their favorite targets. If a link is not on nu.ac.bd, treat it as hostile until proven otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I check my NU 4th year (final) result 2026?

On the official nu.ac.bd result section (roll + registration + exam year), with the SMS service as backup and the college notice board as confirmation.

How is the final CGPA calculated at NU?

Total quality points across all four years ÷ total degree credits — credit-weighted, never a simple average of yearly GPAs.

Can I improve a 4th year grade after the final result?

Options narrow sharply once the final result is published; the improvement route is grade-dependent and window-bound. Raise it with your college immediately and confirm the current official notice.

What does my final CGPA mean for jobs and master's admission?

It is the figure on your certificate and transcript and the number applications ask for. Keep the marksheet safe and start transcript processes early — college timelines differ.
